I just went through the WordPress plugins I use and donated to every developer that had a donation link.
I know, and you know, how much work and time goes into creating plugins and tutorials for fellow developers and newbies. The least any of us can do is throw a dime or two at these folks.
And, for heaven’s sake, if your getting paid for using someone else’s work, send them something. Anything. $5, $10, whatever.
Let me know what you think.

I’m with you 100% on this one. I haven’t donated to my WordPress plugin developers yet, but I have contributed to the folks that accept donations for the Adobe Lightroom plugins I use. Those things save me TONS of time.
I’d like to add that if you do not make any money, but you do get extra exposure, or it saves you lots of time, you should strongly consider paying a small donation as well.
And don’t forget the feeling: it is much more fun paying for something that makes an individual happy receiving it than paying to some large anonymous company.
@William, @Abel
I love paying the individual. I have received very gracious thank you’s so, yea, it does make everybody feel good. Amount doesn’t matter. Like your mom says, “It’s the thought that counts.”
I have also bought stuff off a developer’s Amazon wish list which is great because you get a variety of stuff and prices to choose from. And, it’s fun as well to browse through their choices. Although one time I had to send a regex book to a guy in Switzerland because the PS game I picked from his list wouldn’t ship from the US to there. Bugger.
